USS Emmons (Kouri-jima)
Kouri Island is famous among tourists with its white beaches and long bridge spanning across picturesque emrald blue waters to the main Okinawan island. Among divers it is even more famous as the home of the USS Emmons wreck. The USS Emmons was an American destroyer which was sunk in the Battle of Okinawa during the Second World War. Due to the depth at which it is resting, this dive site is accessible only to divers with sufficient experience or Deep Diver specialty. For those who do not wish to venture that deep, Kouri Island also offers a number of splendid reef dive sites.
